“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” T. Roosevelt
It’s such a simple concept. Why can we not be happy with what we have and think that in order to do anything we need….. well MORE?
We currently own have a Ford F150 Lariat, with a tow package, that will tow (with the right hitch and sway bar) a travel trailer that has a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight) of between 8500-9000 lbs., a tongue weight (or dry hitch weight) of 900 – 1100 lbs, that is under 32 feet. As wonderful as “Stormtrooper” (our current truck) is, it will not tow a fifth wheel with a front living layout and a GVWR of over 14,000 lbs. So why are we talking to salespeople about purchasing that size RV in October???
We are definitely ready to live the RV life, but to be perfectly honest, we don’t want to go into major debt just to do it!
We have spent the last 2 days, watching a multitude of YouTube videos, trying to find a travel trailer that would fit our current parameters. Guess what…. we not only found 1 we really like, we found 10! All are towable with our current truck and easily in our budget range for purchase….
I think we are making this far too complicated. If we want it bad enough, we will make it happen.
So, we have some ideas of layouts we like. We both have non-negotiables. Bill requires theater seats in the living area and I refuse to have a corner shower. We want as much floor space as possible and a place for our pups to exist. True Queen or King beds are a requirement (no RV queen, which is like a full). Bill likes to see an outdoor kitchen, and I like to see an island in the kitchen.
If you have a suggestion about a floor plan we may be missing, leave us a comment!
I said it before, I often wonder if we have too much time to make decisions. We change our minds, second guess, and make things way more complicated than what they are.
We have decided again, to do what we can, with what we have, where we are… and we’ll keep dreaming about that new truck and fifth wheel purchase in a couple years, after we get some travel and practice under our belts.
Thanks for joining us on our journey, driven by a second chance…at life.
